What are you feeling

Someone asked me yesterday afternoon,  “What are you feeling right now?”  I thought it was an interesting question.  Mostly, I feel calm, despite the fact that I felt that my first meeting of homeroom was a little chaotic.  Managing middle schoolers is definitely a challenge.  I have 8th grade students.  Half of them are on the road to real maturity and half are still definitely kids.  I have a feeling they’ll all be more mature by the end of the year.  I’m feeling my way through, analyzing and reflecting on what’s going well, what needs to be done, etc.  I know that it takes practice to get good at this and so, I know that I’ll get better as I go along.  I’m really looking forward to being more comfortable in front of the classroom.  I’m trying to channel a little Cesar Milan: calm and assertive energy.

Middle School kids? You are brave! Practice deep breathing and enjoy the ride. I am sure the challenge will be rewarding.
