Flooded

Update: The water has receded, but it’s still gonna need to be cleaned up.  Cat still perched in a window.

My basement now has 5 or so inches of water in it.  It’s not supposed to stop raining until Monday.  The cat is in the basement because she’s afraid of the dog.  I rescued her and she went running back through water ten minutes later so that she wouldn’t have to deal with the dog.  It’s likely everything down there is ruined.  Which sucks.  The furnace and water heater about about 2 inches under water.  Can’t even begin to tell you how much this sucks.

Oh, and P.S. No flood insurance.

OH, I’m so sorry. We just had those same rains here for 4 days. Our backyard is a swamp.

OH NO! We were flooded too last night, but it was less than half an inch because we had several pieces of leftover carpeting which totally saved us. And it was only one room and nothing (but the carpet pieces) got ruined. I cannot imagine 5 inchjes of water in the whole basement. OMG!!!

Let us know more. How awful! and the poor cat too… :-(

  5. I just dropped by from Laura’s to find this — how horrible! When the same thing happened to my parents’ house after Ike, I wrote up a post about immediate things to do after a flood, and hope it’s somewhat helpful.

Thanks for the info Ben! Luckily, it’s just the basement and for the most part, it’s been a place where we store the stuff that we don’t want, but haven’t found a way to get rid of yet. I did find a small collection of keepsakes that were ruined and that made me a little sad, but so far, the damage has been mostly to things I considered trash anyway.
